[Terrance swipes a chicken finger and quickly devours it. He doesn't actually remember the last time he's eaten. Skipping meals has become a common practice for him.]

Huh? [He clearly doesn't realize how pissed he looks.] You're fine.

[He licks his fingers and then thinks about ordering himself a drink. He just wants to feel numb.]

[sonicosuper]

Okay. I'm fine. That's good.

*Sonico takes another bit of chicken and starts to eat it in a slightly different way to how Terrance has. Instead, she pulls it into tiny pieces and licks it from her fingers*

You...don't seem fine, though. If you're not happy to be here then you don't need to stay.

[Terrance glances over at her, his expression measured and his eyes hard.]

I'm not happy anywhere Sonico.

[He hopes he might be happy here. If he's to find that feeling with anyone it'd be Sonico or not at all.]

[sonicosuper]

*Sonico watches Terrance carefully, a little taken aback by the way in which he looked at her. Slowly, she wriggles somewhat closer to him, and cleans her hands on a napkin*

Terrance? Is something wrong?

*Suddenly she seems all business, completely focused on him and ignoring her dinner, hands resting on her lap*

[Terrance watches her before turning back to steal another piece of chicken. He takes a bite and slowly chews before finally turning back to her.

He really hates talking about himself.]

Why would anything be wrong?

[sonicosuper]

*Sonico just wstches him, her eyes drifting from his, to his hands, and back again. She licks her lips uncomfortably before deciding to speak again*

I don't mean to sound rude, but you look...

*He looks like she just wants to give him a hug, but she has a feeling that would be a step in the wrong direction*

You look rather unhappy.

[Terrance keeps eating the chicken strip until it's gone, watching her with a passive sort of interest.]

Compared to before?

[He wipes his hands on his pants, no longer caring about the mess.]

I'm always unhappy Sonico.

[sonicosuper]

Are you...?

*Sonico watches him a moment more before bowing her head and looking at her hands for a moment. She couldn't quite say why, but his comment upset her a little. But she swallows and looks back up at him, head cocked to the side in concern*

Then maybe you just look more unhappy than usual. Like maybe something extra is bothering you.

Maybe.

[Terrance rolls his shoulders in a shrug but says nothing more. When a waitress comes by he waves her over and orders a double whiskey dry. He's hoping that Sonico will simply get tired of asking him and start on another topic.]

[sonicosuper]

*Sonico simply shakes her head at the waitress and sips slowly and quietly at her milkshake*

So, if something had maybe happened, would you maybe tell me a bit about it? Maybe get it off your chest?

*She sounds really rather embarrassed to be asking these questions. Sonico is not the prying type at all, but she is really not happy seeing Terrance like this*

[He releases a tense breath and prays for his drink to arrive quickly.]

Why would I want to talk about it?

[sonicosuper]

Because... That's what people do. When something bad or unhappy happens. To talk things through, to help them work out their feelings, or just to feel a bit of relief.

Or so people have told him.

*She doesn't want to push, especially not when he seems so tense. So she stops talking for a moment and finishes her milkshake rather noisily as she drains it through the straw*

[The waitress brings him drink and he gives her a curt nod before taking a rather large sip of it. He winches as the liquor stings the back of his throat. Besides those two pieces of chicken he hasn't actually eaten today.]

Is that what you do? Tell people when something happens?

[He has never relied on people like that and he really doesn't know how.]

Well...I do my best to. I - I don't have much of an exciting or anyway interesting life but. But there's been a couple of times I wish I'd spoken to someone and not just my cats. Human response isn't such a terrible thing.

*She does her best to sound encouraging, keeping her voice soft as she plays with the straw inside the large glass*

Like what?

[He takes a sip of his drink and turns to look at the table. For a moment he thought he might find an answer there but of course there is nothing.]

Well, I'm used to talking to things that can't talk back. At least another person can look and sound sympathetic, or can give good advice. Sometimes people like just having someone to cry to, or someone to hug.

*She knows that's true, though she isn't really the type to cry in front of anyone, or to hug people*

Or..you can say what is bothering you, and we agree to talk about it only as much as you want, and then I can help to cheer you up as best I can.

[rockcollector]

[His hope had been to turn the conversation around and make it about her. Since that hadn't work he assumed he had to be more direct.]

I don't want to talk about it. I don't want advice or to cry.

[sonicosuper]

Oh. Okay.

*No, she had been too focused on him too to start talking abour herself. She stops and sits back in the booth. Then she picks up the second last bit of chicken, pushing the last bit over to him*

Nice snacks, hmm?

[rockcollector]

Yeah.

[To him this is more of a meal than a snack but he really doesn't want to tell her that. She might notice that he's starting to look thinner and paler than before but that's probably just a trick of the light.

Terrance takes another sip of his drink, wincing as he inhales the strong taste of alcohol.]

[sonicosuper]

*Sonico studies him carefully, not staring at him but really carefully looking at him, quietly trying to make sense of him*

You don't really seem to be enjoying that whisky... How about we order some more food, hmm? This place does some good chicken burgers. Or how about dessert? Maybe it's time for tea and cake, hmm?

[rockcollector]

[Terrance raises an eyebrow at her.]

Chicken burgers?

[He sounds sceptical.]

I'm not hungry. [Except he is.]

[sonicosuper]

Yes, chicken burgers. And they come with good fries too. With all sorts of dips.

*Though, she's kinda had enough chicken and would rather have some fries. Or cake*

You sure? You seemed to eat those chicken strips quick enough...

[rockcollector]

[He rolls his shoulders and downs the rest of his drink.]

They were here. I want another drink.

[sonicosuper]

Okay, I don't think that's a great idea. All that drink with not a lot of food isn't good for you. And as much as I'd like to, I can't carry you home.

*If she looked concerned before, now she was even more worried*

If I got some more chicken would you eat some? Or some fries?

[rockcollector]

As much as you'd like to?

[He rises an eyebrow at her and orders the drink anyway. He isn't going to comment on the food remark though if it's place in front of him he'll probably eat it.]
