Well, I'm used to talking to things that can't talk back. At least another person can look and sound sympathetic, or can give good advice. Sometimes people like just having someone to cry to, or someone to hug.
*She knows that's true, though she isn't really the type to cry in front of anyone, or to hug people*
Or..you can say what is bothering you, and we agree to talk about it only as much as you want, and then I can help to cheer you up as best I can.
*No, she had been too focused on him too to start talking abour herself. She stops and sits back in the booth. Then she picks up the second last bit of chicken, pushing the last bit over to him*
[To him this is more of a meal than a snack but he really doesn't want to tell her that. She might notice that he's starting to look thinner and paler than before but that's probably just a trick of the light.
Terrance takes another sip of his drink, wincing as he inhales the strong taste of alcohol.]
*Sonico studies him carefully, not staring at him but really carefully looking at him, quietly trying to make sense of him*
You don't really seem to be enjoying that whisky... How about we order some more food, hmm? This place does some good chicken burgers. Or how about dessert? Maybe it's time for tea and cake, hmm?
[He rises an eyebrow at her and orders the drink anyway. He isn't going to comment on the food remark though if it's place in front of him he'll probably eat it.]
Uh - well - Not that I'm thinking of taking you home. Not right now. Or -
*Oh dear. She is not good with words at all and seems to just be digging a hole for herself*
What I mean is, if you were to get quite drunk and I was worried about you being vulnerable with all these women around, then yes. I would like to carry you home.
*Hopefully that makes more sense. It certainly does in her head. And actually, she finds she really doesn't like the idea of the women in the bar deciding to claim him. Still, she orders herself a soda this time, along with a basket of chicken and fries*
[Terrance releases a soft huff of air as the waitress comes back with his drink. He nods to her and takes a long sip of it before turning back to Sonico.]
I don't think anyone here intends to take him home.
[If he's drunk, he probably wouldn't mind but Terrance hasn't ever been so fortunate with girls.]
*When the food arrives, Sonico takes a frie, but then gently pushes the basket closer to Terrance so that he can easily help himself*
Oh?
*Sonico looks at him, a little surprised by his comment. He sounds so sure, and yet he's so handsome, so why wouldn't women try. Now she is staring, and she is more sure than she was before that he does look thinner, and so exhausted. Despite her good judgement shs reaches a hand out until her finger tips touch his, her voice soft and caring when she speaks*
Terrance...If you don't want to talk about it, then I understand. But you have to remember to look after yourself...
[Terrance blinks, clearly startled by her touch. He turns his head towards her and stares.]
I'm fine.
[His voice is raspy and he's trying his best to ignore her finger. He just wants to drink but his words are clearly a lie. Even Sonico will be able to hear how forced they are, as if he's trying to convince himself.]
*It was upsetting, knowing that something had obviously hurt him and seeing how hard he was trying to hide it. She moves a little closer to him, their shoulders touching. Sonico thinks about taking her hand away, but instead it moves so the fingers just lightly touch the back of his hand*
It is okay to be upset. Whatever happened, you're allowed to be hurt by it.
[Terrance takes another sip of his drink, if only to avoid replying to her. He has no idea what to say. He doesn't like yelling despite being a grump and rather unpleasant company.
Instead of saying anything he picks up a fry and slowly begins to nimble on it.]
*His silence worries her, but she doesn't want to push him. Sonico takes her hand back and uses it to pull her soda towards her, only drinking from it to try and fill the silence with something. She glances at him again, hoping that maybe he'll start talking. At least if he's eating then that's good too. Still, in her expression it is clear that she's worried*
I-if you're not going to talk about it, t-then I don't think you should be drinking about it either.
*It wasn't like Sonico to tell anyone want to do, and she is both embarrassed and scared as she says this. Still, she looks him firmly in the eye, her throat suddenly dry. She doesn't want to anger him but she's worried that she will*
*Sonico drops her hands on her lap, her shoulders hunches as she stares down at them. She is aware of her cheeks flushing red, ashamed at her reasons for drinking, and frightened to say them out loud*
For...a couple of reasons. I don't think we drink for the same reasons... Why do you drink? Why are you drinking now...?
